The Single Particle Explorer® - Easy/Automated Particle Counting and Identification with RAMAN Spectroscopy

Berlin March 22th, 2005 - Until recently, identifying particle contaminants has been a costly and time consuming process. Contaminants are only preventable if their source can be revealed. Therefore, Rap.ID Particle Systems, in conjunction with leading pharmaceutical companies, has developed the Single Particle Explorer®.

The Single Particle Explorer® is supported by the patented APSys Filtr.AID® system for the isolation of particles, in order to automatically and reliably count particles on the filter membrane. All microscopic images of the particles are documented and automatically analyzed. Parameters such as number, length, width, and shape of the particles can be measured.

Additionally, the chemical composition of the determined contaminative particles can be exactly identified with the user friendly Particle Explorer® software. The identification of particles with a size of less then a micrometer is possible with the automated analysis by Raman spectroscopy and the interpretation of the integrated database.

Each measurement is comprehensively reported. All collected data i.e. number, size and shape of particles from microscopic image analysis and their chemical composition from Raman Spectroscopy will be included in the report; e.g. 10 rubber particles of a certain rubber composition. Measurement parameters, once they are generated, can easily be modified, saved and administrated by the main user.

The system is designed in compliance with cGMP and is thus 21 CFR Part 11 compliant. Rap.ID Particle Systems considers itself to be a reliable service partner and as a matter of course qualifies the equipment with all-embracing documentation for this purpose. The verification of calibration is standardized and can be carried out by the customer. Contract Testing, Method Development and Validation Services are routinely offered by Rap.ID.

Rap.ID is well versed in a wide range of applications including Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Electronics, and other Industries. In collaboration with a few leading pharmaceutical companies, Rap.ID has completed several successful studies using both the Single Particle Explorer® and the more automated Liquid Particle Explorer®.
